projects 3&4 Le Marchant Street

Create won a competition to design a new office for the Heritage Group. The brief was to create an office with the “wow Factor”. Ricky and James’ design brought light and open plan office space into what was a very dark building containing a restaurant, social club and an unoccupied top floor office. To keep costs under control in the early stages it was decided to retain the existing street facade, rear and to some extent the internal walls.

An internal light was incorporated in the roof which was designed to bring light from the second floor right down to the ground floor via cuts in the floor. The cuts in the floor are 1.5 m wide and incorporated bridges to link No 3 and 4 together; further light is brought into the building with large gable windows and a glazed atrium containing a glazed lift shaft. The journey from Heritage Halls entrance foyer up to the second floor level allows the visitor to view the workings of the office as they travel in the lift alternatively there is a command of the neighboring islands to enjoy on the top floor lift landing.
