projects Hadsley House
Hadsley House is a fine looking Granite fronted Georgian building opposite the St Peter Port Constables office and was purchased by the Heritage Group in 2006. A condition survey prepared by Create revealed a number of building defects which required rectification before the new owners could move into the building. As the floor boards were lifted it was discovered that the ends of the former ships beams installed as part of the original structure were either rotten or suffering from wood boring insect decay. In close consultation with the clients Structural Engineer and the Environment Departments Heritage Building Officer it was decided that the beams would be treated and supported from below with new steel beams built into the existing granite walls. The historical integrity of the existing structure was maintained and structural support was now being provided fairly discreetly with new boxed in steel beams. The basement was tanked and water proofed and the building redecorated from top to bottom. The top floor flat was refurbished and a new kitchen and bathroom were installed. It was agreed that the roof which was repaired, would be re-slated within the next two years.
